First show of the year at Ratio 3 SF!

Truly honored to be invited to play among the beautiful ceramic worlds of friend/artist, James Sterling Pitt, as we celebrate the closing of his expansive exhibition, Ways, at Ratio 3 in San Francisco, California. It is my first show of the year and will be joined by longtime sonic traveler, Rich Douthit on percussion. It would mean the world to share this moment with you!

Much love,

Announcing “Other States” vinyl REISSUE!

Very excited to partner with Debacle records for a vinyl edition of “Other States”, originally released on cassette via Geographic Norths’s wonderfully-curated “Sketch for Winter” series, and now lovingly remastered for LP by Chuck Johnson with new artwork by longtime friend and collaborator, Billy Joe Miller.

This music would not exist without the confluence of so many amazing people and experiences (visit link for more detailed context) including Paul Clipson, James Sterling Pitt, Bobby and Farbod, along with so many who helped this music come to life.

Preorder now / Nov. 4th official release!

Thank you as ever for listening and supporting!

With love,

I’ll be participating in two exciting shows this Saturday June 21st for Summer Solstice…

The first is part on an ongoing collaboration with visual artist James Sterling Pitt in conjunction with his fellowship at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley. The event is set to take place between 4 and 7p. I’ll do a 45 min set starting promptly at 5p. There will be some refreshments provided. Please try and arrive early to take in the art and get a comfy spot to listen. It is free, but we will have a place for donations. Visit the Facebook event for additional info. To learn more about the project, please read here.

Kala is located at 2990 San Pablo Ave, Bekeley, CA (Directions & Map)

The second show will be held at LCM in Oakland. I’ll be sharing the evening with one of my favorite PDX bands, Golden Retriever who will be supporting their newest album, Seer out now on Thrill Jockey. Also playing is Madelyn Merkey and Glochids. It gets going around 9p and has a $5-10 sliding scale. Visit the Facebook event for more info.

LCM is located at the intersection of 8th & Peralta in Oakland.

Really hope you make it out!

Nice recap of the Far Far Near show at Adobe Books!!!

One of my favorite SF web/print publications The Bold Italic wrote a nice article recapping the recent opening I played at for Far Far Near over at Adobe Books curated by artist James Sterling Pitt.  It was a beautiful coming together of art, music, and community.  The show will be up for a solid month so if you didn’t make it to the opening, please do yourself a favor and go check out the artwork!  One of the three artists is my dear friend Billy Joe Miller who came all the way out from Albuquerque to show.  Billy is responsible for both the covers to my albums Fountain & more recently In Search of Light.  He’s amazing!  Thanks very much to Marion from The Bold Italic for the kind words and pics….

Head on over HERE to read the full article!

Hello folks!

I’ll be playing some music for an exciting group show coming up in SF at Adobe Books Backroom Gallery curated by James Sterling Pitt.  One of my dear friends Billy Joe Miller will be coming all the way from Albuquerque New Mexico to show work!  Billy’s done the cover art to both of my solo albums Fountain (Root Strata 2010) and In Search Of Light (Students Of Decay 2011) so it’s really special to be able to play music in the same room with his artwork.  Please have a look at the press release below for details and share it with your peeps ) ) )

Really hope you can make it out!

Adobe Books Backroom Gallery
January 14 – February 12, 2012
Opening reception: Saturday, January 14, 7-10pm

Curated by James Sterling Pitt
Adobe Books Backroom Gallery is pleased to present FAR FAR NEAR, a group exhibition featuring the work of Lauren Douglas, Billy Joe Miller, and Christopher West. The exhibition concept centers on memory, its dissolution and recollection, viewed through an autobiographical lens. Curator James Sterling Pitt initiated conversations with the three artists around such diverse images and events as a disintegrating beach house, a mother whale stranded in the Klamath River, and a World Series baseball game inturrupted by the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The resulting mixed-media exhibition expands on such universal ideas as nostalgia, family ties, and attempts to fix a fleeting moment in time.

The opening reception will feature special musical sets by three Bay Area bands:  Upside Drown, fieldguide, and Danny Paul Grody. Please visit the Backroom Gallery blog for more info and updates on events to accompany the exhibition.
