Announcing new album + lead-off single + video!!!

I am overjoyed to announce the arrival of my new album, Arc of Day, taking flight June 16th on Three Lobed Recordings! You can hear the first single, Light Blooms, on all digi platforms and watch a video by Ian Albert via the Uncut premiere here.

Finding the words to describe how much this album means does not come easy, but here goesโ€ฆ

One of the single greatest aspects to making music is getting to share it… to set something free and watch it take on a life all its own is something I will never take for granted. Even more life affirming is getting to share the creative process with others and witnessing something entirely new emerge. This was my intention from the get-go and Arc of Day is the result of that effort.

I am incredibly grateful to Rich Douthit (percussion), Chuck Johnson (pedal steel), Jonathan Sielaff (clarinet), and Trevor Montgomery (bass) for joining me and truly helping to elevate the music. Mega thanks also goes to collaborators, Billy Joe Miller, for gracing the album cover with his stunning painting, Donal Mosher for writing a beautiful forward, D. Norsen for his impeccable design skills, the Brothers Chinese Recordings (Jay and Ian) for vividly capturing this music in a studio setting (a first for DPG!), Carl Saff for his mastering wizardry, the amazing team (women-owned!) at Gold Rush Vinyl, and to Cory Rayborn for giving this music a home and for steadfast belief in what I do.

You can listen to โ€œLight Bloomsโ€ on your preferred streaming service. The full album is available for pre-order on Bandcamp (180 black or orange LP, digital) or from your favorite retailer.

Featured in Terrascopรฆdia issue 20!

Thrilled to receive my physical copy of the latest issue of Terrascopรฆdia 20 in the mail today and I must say it’s exquisite! Very thankful toย head proprietor, Phil McMullen, for reaching out to me, and to be included amongst such fine company. Only 150 copies were produced. Each copy is entirely hand made from cover to cover, typeset one letter at a time and printed in full color on a fully restored 1926 vintage press (AKA labor of love – learn more about the process here). Not surprisingly, it tends to sell out quick so I’ve included some snaps from the interview where I discuss past/present/future releases, including some new and exciting music on the horizon ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ’ซโœจ

As always, thanks for listening and supporting!

Three Lobed 21st Festival!

Hard to believe this is on the horizon in less than two weeks! I am beyond excited to celebrate 21 years of Three Lobed Recordings among such fine company! Massive gratitude to Cory Rayborn, who keeps things chugging along with so much heart and genuine support! It’s going to be a heady three days…

With love,

THREE LOBED RECORDINGS 21st ANNIVERSARY FESTIVAL!

Very psyched to announce I’ll be heading east this coming April for Three Lobed Recording’s 21st anniversary festival in collaboration with WXDU 88.7 FM, Duke Coffeehouse, Duke Arts, and Dukeย Performances! This marks my first solo performance in nearly two years, which is wild and yet not surprising given our pandemic reality. I’m honored to be a part of the Three Lobed family of artists and excited to celebrate three nights of exploratory music amongst an incredible lineup!

A note about the fest from Three Lobed honcho and all-around solid dude, Cory Rayborn:

Once upon a time we were going to throw a three day festival with our friends at duke performances and WXDU to celebrate the kickoff of TLR’s 20th anniversary. it would have been in october 2020 and, well, a few things came together to make that unworkable. the world is starting to look a little more open and workable and we’re trying again, this time in the form of the three lobed 21st anniversary festival from april 14-16 2022 in durham NC. look for a memorable three day weekend containing sets from (in no particular order) the gunn-truscinski duo, body/dilloway/head, sunburned hand of the man, pelt, steve gunn (solo), meg baird & mary lattimore, daniel bachman, marisa anderson & william tyler, 500mg, lee ranaldo with films by leah singer, wet tuna, danny paul grody, the orcutt/corsano duo and some more performances that we aren’t in a position to list quite yet. additional information (day by day breakdown) and tickets are available at the link in the bio. join us, won’t you?

Happy 20th Anniversary to Three Lobed Recordings!!!

Earlier this week, the good folks at Aquarium Drunkard put together a feature celebrating 20 yrs of Three Lobed Recordings. To mark the occasion, a variety of people were invited to share thoughts on albums that have made an impact on them. I am humbled to have been included and grateful to be a part of this incredible family of artists!

Below are some thoughtful reflections on my LP “Between Two Words” (2013) by William Tyler and Chuck Johnson, both of whom happen to be personal guitar heroes and all-around solid human beings. Truly touched by these words:

via companion feature on the equally awesome site, Doom & Gloom From The Tomb

I definitely encourage you to visit the full feature linked above, as it takes a deep-dive into an even deeper catalogue of varied adventurous sounds.

Here’s to another 20 yrs to one of the best labels around!

Wishing you all good health and peace,

DPG

2013 & Looking Forward…

Hello and Happy New Year!

Just wanted to take a moment and reflect on some highlights from 2013 as well as mention a few exciting adventures to look forward to in the New Year…

This past year saw the release on my third album Between Two Worldsย on Three Lobed Recordings. ย Cory Rayborn, who runs the label, is one of the most passionate dudes out there! ย It was such a pleasure to work with him on this!

Played some great shows. ย One highlight involved performing on a moving bus along the Pacific Coast Highway as the sun set. It was pretty epic. ย Thanks to the folks at Soundwave Fest for hosting that! ย Did some touring along the West coast withย Chuck Johnsonย who released his gorgeous albumย Crows In The Basilicaย LP on Three Lobed around the same time as mine. ย We shared some great nights with the likes of Marisa Anderson,ย Eyvind Kang & Jessiika Kenney, Golden Retriever, Date Palms, and Daniel Bachman. ย Other highlights included a show with Grouper, playing a benefit for a documentary in the works about the great Robbie Basho w/ Bill Orcutt, Chuck Johnson, Andrew Weathers, Henry Kaiser, among others, and sharing a night of film & music with my buds Paul Clipson, Evan Caminity, and Trevor Montgomery. ย Good times we’re had all around!

Got to travel out to Albuquerque, NM and collaborate withย artist andย dear friend Billy Joe Miller on hisย Wake exhibit. ย Billy has done all the covers to my solo releases so it was a dream to be able to physically perform among his work in real time. ย He took me to some of the beautiful surrounding areas … ย The Ojito wilderness left a particularily deep impression on me. ย 2014 will see more collaboration in this series… ย again in Albuquerque this February on a farm.. details forthcoming!

Another exciting collaboration I got to participate in was with Bay Area artist David Wilson. ย Wilson was chosen for the biennial SECA award given out by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art to Bay Area artists. ย I composed music in collaboration with friends Andy Cabic (Vetiver) and Tony Cross for a site-specific pieceย in park Presidio. ย We performed live and it was recorded and left on a cassette as an ‘artifact’ for folks to engage with alongside David’s amazing painting. ย It was an incredible experience! ย Here are some pics of the event.

The new year starts off with some exciting news. ย My better half and I have been invited to do a nine day residency at the Harrison House out in beautiful Joshua Tree! ย The residency is based in the late composer Lou Harrison’s desert retreat in his honor. ย It sits on some of the most beautiful land in the world. ย We are so thrilled about this adventure! ย Leaving first thing tomorrow!

The first show of the new year will be in conjunction with artist James Sterling Pitt’s exhibit “Hello Green Cosmos” at Gallery Paula Anglim in SF, Sat. Jan. 18th at 4p. ย Can’t think of a better way to get things started!

Lastly, there are a couple exciting releases on the horizon for 2014. ย Both of which will be released on the excellentย Students of Decayย label who put out my second LP,ย In Search of Light. ย The first of which will be an LP collecting some of my earliest acoustic recordings dating as far back as 2004, and the second will be a collaboration with guitarist James Blackshaw. ย Really looking forward to seeing these take shape and sharing it with you! ย Both have no set release date yet, so please keep an eye out as the year unfolds.

As always, thanks for taking the time to read and listen …

Wishing you a fulfilling, healthy, and happy New Year!

Track premiere via Pitchfork!

Very excited to share a preview for the closing track “Ojito (At Sunset)” from my new album “Between Two Worlds” out Aug. 20th on Three Lobed Recordings. ย Grayson Currin had some very kind words to say about the track via Pitchfork. ย Have a look & listen HERE!

The piece was written over the course of a year or so through mostly live performances, ย but it wasn’t until I made my way out to New Mexico and visited the Ojito Wilderness area that I really understood the shape it needed to take for the album. ย Something about the wide expanse of the desert landscape and it’s endless horizon really helped give context to not only this song, but also to much of the album.

I’ll leave you with a few pic’s to pour over until hopefully you can visit the Ojito Wilderness for yourself….

Dear all,

I’m very happy to announce my third albumย Between Two Worlds will be released this August the 20th (2013) on the venerable Three Lobed Recordings! ย It will be available on LP in a limited edition of 650 copies, each including a download code. ย It will also be available to stream and download via the Three Lobed Bandcamp page. ย In the meantime, you can pre-order and preview a track from the albumย HERE.

It is a true honor to be working with Three Lobed. ย I cannot wait to share this new music with you!

Much Love,

DPG

Here is the gorgeous cover created by my dear friend and collaborator Billy Joe Miller. ย The photo was taken in the Ojito wilderness region in New Mexico, not far from Albuquerque. ย Billy and I visited this spot last fall and it really had a deep effect on me. ย I drew a lot of inspiration from this place when working on the album. ย I strongly recommend you try and visit sometime.
